Despite the concerns of inflating Ohio health insurance premiums, industry insiders emphasize that consumers can still attain economical medical coverage. The health reform’s Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) requires that Ohio health insurance companies accommodate consumers with a slew of consumer-friendly guidelines. President of Ohio Life and Health.com, Michael Novelli advises,

“If you’re looking for a health insurance plan, several new legislations offset these costs and provisions:

Preventative health care has its benefits. Cancer screening, mammograms and cholesterol tests are three benefits that consumers no longer have to share the cost in co-payments, coinsurance and deductibles with Ohio health insurance companies. These inclusive benefits help Americans monitor their health, motivating new healthy lifestyle habits.

Children with preexisting medical conditions cannot be denied medical coverage. “In the past, we were unable to find suitable Ohio health insurance for families with diabetic children under the age of 19. Now that the legislation prohibits this type of medical discrimination, Ohioans have the ability to secure medical care for their children to stay healthy,” shares Mr. Novelli.

OHIO HEALTH INSURANCE FACT: To keep policies affordable, low premiums with high deductible health plans are the best choice for middle-income families, grappling with other household expenses.

Rescinding policies is no longer acceptable. Ohio health insurance companies used to rescind coverage after policyholders became ill, leaving subscribers with hospital claims. The health reform bill stipulates that Ohio health insurance companies can rescind coverage if the policyholders committed fraud or if there was a misrepresentation of their medical history, during the application process. Moreover, policyholders have 30-days to appeal rescissions.

Although these newly instituted laws offer consumers the choices they need to find medical coverage, Ohioans still need to be prudent about the policies they choose. This is why it’s more essential then ever to compare Ohio health insurance quotes.

Review how the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) allowing unmarried dependents up to the age of 28 to be added to their parent’s Ohio medical insurance will affect some 20,000 young adult to have dependent coverage in Ohio

On July 1, 2010, the law (Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act PPACA) , allowing unmarried dependents up to the age of 28 to be added to their parent’s Ohio medical insurance. This means that an approximate 20,000 young adults will have access to health care, ultimately closing the gap for individuals who do not have dependent coverage in Ohio.

According to the Ohio Department of Insurance, Governor Strickland advises Ohioan parents to:

“…Inquire with their employer or Ohio medical insurance provider about the dependent age change.”

Prior to the national health care reform, now dubbed the PPACA–children and step children were covered up to the age of 19 or 23 (If they were full-time students) remain under a parents’ Ohio medical insurance policy.

With the new law in place, insurance agencies have to supply parents with the details pertaining to the availability of Ohio medical insurance coverage. Although insurance providers are required to extend coverage for single dependents, individuals as well as families are advised to compare the cost of adding or keeping dependents on a policy to the cost of an individual plan.

President of Ohio Life and Health, Michael Novelli advises Ohioans to do the following when comparing policies:

1) Obtain several Ohio health insurance quotes.

2) Compare the deductible of a family versus and individual deductible

3) Review the difference between the premiums for an individual policy for the monthly/annual cost of adding an independent to the family policy.

4) Remember to review policies based on the hospital and physician network, out-of-pocket expenses, co-insurance, co-payments and other pertinent medical care costs.

As the Patient Protection and Affordability Care Act (PPACA) implements new laws, certain definitions related to Ohio health insurance are changing. In this installment of Ohio Life and Health, we’re reviewing medical insurance terms, which have an ambiguous connotation and how it influences who need a new Ohio health insurance policy:

Disease management with the PPACA, disease management is key to reducing health care costs and enhancing the life quality of individuals living with a terminal medical condition. Patients, medical providers and Ohio health insurance companies will coordinate efforts to minimize in-patient care, by focusing on health on education, outpatient care and at home care.

Grandfathered plan Not all Ohio health insurance plans have to incorporate the stipulations, as defined in the Patient Protection and Affordability Care Act. As a result, any enrollments made prior to March 23, 2010 are exempt from the requirements of PPACA, and thus named, ‘grandfathered plans’. Also, employees as well as new family members may be added to all grandfathered plans. (In other words, any Ohio medical insurance policies that were in existence prior to President Obama signing the bill will stay in effect)

Guaranteed issue a component of the PPACA, requiring insurance company sell coverage to any consumer. Although the PPACA has a clause requiring a “guaranteed issue,” Ohio health insurance companies have until 2014 to offer such plans.

Essential Benefits are another proposed change that becomes effective in 2014. Essential Ohio health insurance plans will have to provide a basic package of “essential benefits.” These include

Hospitalization

Outpatient services,

Maternity care

Prescription drugs

Emergency care and

Preventive services

The provision also imposes a limit on the amount of cost-sharing that patients have to remit for these services.

In the interim, for those in quest of short term health plan, should keep the aforementioned guidelines in mind. Obtain Ohio health insurance quotes today.

(PPACA) is a new law requiring insurance providers as well as Ohio medical insurance companies not to discriminate providing medical coverage for individuals suffering from a pre-existing conditions

What is the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act?

The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) is a new law requiring insurance providers as well as Ohio health insurance companies not to discriminate providing medical coverage for individuals suffering from a pre-existing conditions. The law also defines other patient right’s such as: preventative services, a temporary high risk pool insurance program and grants for small businesses that cannot afford to provide Ohio health insurance.

How does Ohio plan to ensure that consumers who fall under the high risk pool have proper health insurance?

When President Barack Obama signed the national health reform bill in March of 2010, one of the revisions mandates that the individuals, who are uninsured due to a preexisting medical condition, have access to affordable Ohio medical insurance. Among 45, states, Ohio is slated to participate in the temporary high-risk program; however, there are eligibility requirements.

What are the eligibility requirements for participating in the temporary high risk pool – Ohio health insurance program?

Individuals, diagnosed with a preexisting medical condition, must be legal citizens to qualify for temporary the high-risk pool program. Also, applicants, who carried a creditable Ohio health insurance within the last 6-months–are ineligible for these high-risk pools programs.

Are the high risk pool premiums for Ohio health insurance plans expensive?

With the national health reform bill, the new legislation stipulates that qualifying individuals have a legal entitlement to affordable insurance.

Which pre-existing conditions qualify for the federally sponsored high risk pool Ohio medical insurance?

Preexisting conditions are determined and defined by the Ohio Insurance Department, secretary.

How long will these aforementioned federally sponsored plans be in effect?

The year 2012 or until the federal funds run out.

What other options do people, who do not qualify for the high risk pool have?

Since many Ohio health insurance companies are already modifying their plans in accordance with the PPACA, there are some newly devised Ohio medical insurance programs.

Obtain Ohio medical insurance quotes to compare costs – completely hassle free.
