Here is the timeline for the projected provisions and changes:

June 2010

  • Some small businesses will be able to qualify for a tax credit for specified Ohio health insurance related expenditures
  •  On June 23td, a temporary high‐risk pool as well as a high‐cost union retiree reinsurance fund of  $5 billion goes into effect for the next three and a half years

July 2010

  • Effective Jul 1st, Medicare reduces at hospital  (inpatient) psychiatric benefits
  • A 10 percent tax will be imposed  on the purchase of any indoor UV tanning session(s)

September 2010

  • Another phase of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act  goes into effect on September 23rd, prohibiting any lifetime and annual benefit limitations
  • On the same date, Ohio medical insurance companies will no longer be able to cancel benefits for non‐group plans, This encompasses rescissions as well.
  • Parents can keep their children who are young adults  up to the age of 26  on their family, Ohio health insurance plan.
  • Additionally, Ohio health insurance companies will not be authorized to charge for any preventive care services.
